The difference you can hold
Your child’s book, not a name swap
Most personalized books drop a name into pages that never change. Story Genie writes and illustrates the story around your child.
Story GenieMade from your photo
Your child appears in the art on every page. You pick the style, the setting, and the life lesson.
A Story About
[CHILD’S NAME]
same pages, every child
The premade template
Fixed illustrations and a fixed plot. Your child’s name goes into pages that stay the same.

Inside the book
Full-page art with your child in the scene.

A real hardcover
Stitched binding and thick pages, built for nightly reads.

The first look
They find themselves on page one.
Left: real Story Genie product photography. Right: an illustration of the common premade approach, not any specific brand’s book.
More than a name swap
Put the people they love in the story.
Template builders give you one hero on a premade plot. Upload one photo and your child, their pet, and grandma all become characters, looking like themselves.

Upload them together and they all show up in the story, drawn to look like themselves.
How to judge any brand
Six questions that cut through the marketing.
The homepages all rhyme. Run any personalized-book brand through these and the differences get clear fast.
Does the hero look like the child, or just share a name?
Name-and-avatar builders let you pick hair and eye color. Photo personalization draws the hero from a real picture, so the child recognizes themselves. These are different products. Decide which you want first.
Can you add more than one character, or just the one child?
Most builders give you a single hero on a premade plot. The real test is whether you can cast the people they actually love. Upload a photo with your dog, grandma, or their best friend. A true custom book draws all of them in, looking like themselves.
Is the price all-in, or a teaser?
A low sticker often hides shipping, a hardcover upcharge, or a softcover default. The number that matters is what you pay at checkout. One all-in price beats a teaser plus three add-ons.
Can you see the book before paying?
Some brands charge first and reveal the book after. For a gift you cannot easily return, that is backwards. Insist on a real free preview, and bonus points if you can edit or regenerate the book before it prints.
What happens to the uploaded photo?
If you upload a photo, find a clear deletion window, a no-AI-training promise, and a no-sharing promise. If a brand stays quiet here, that silence is the answer.
Is it a real hardcover with real page count?
This is a keepsake, so the object matters. Hardcover by default, heavyweight pages, and 24 or more illustrated pages reads as a real book. A thin softcover gets shelved once.
